This week’s guests are Liz Drury and Heidi Kirby.

Liz Drury was born and brought up in Northamptonshire, and now lives in rural North Lincolnshire. She has a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Durham, and a PhD in Archaeological Science from the University of Bradford.

 

After working in local television and education, she began working as a voiceover artist in 2013 whilst living in the USA. She has worked across many voiceover genres including commercials, e-learning, corporate videos and audio tours for clients such as Bulgari, VW, JCB, Booking dot com, Hilton Garden Inn, World Animal Protection and the NHS.

 

In 2017 she was named as one of the UK’s top 100 Small Businesses which led to an invitation to a reception at 10 Downing Street. She has also been nominated for a number of voiceover and business awards.

 

Liz is the host of the Small Business Big Network podcast which is for small business owners who want to get more from their networking.

Heidi Kirby is a learning and development leader, Ph.D. candidate in instructional design and technology at Old Dominion University, and host of the BLOC (Building Learning and Organizational Culture) podcast for L&D professionals. 

A learning problem-solver, Heidi has over eight years’ experience leading learning projects. She got her start as a college English professor but has since worked as an instructional designer for NASA, a large health insurance company, a small tech startup, and a software company in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. She has led instructional design functions for small and mid-sized organizations throughout Northeast Ohio.

She was also instrumental in growing and serving as the VP of the volunteer organization, Teaching: A Path to Learning and Development, which helps educators find careers in L&D. For her PhD program, she is studying leadership competencies instructional designers need to be successful.

Her career goal is to continue to grow and foster her leadership skills to originate and lead learning functions for startup organizations.
